Journalism : Feature writing & Lead

Hello Readers.
This blog is the part of my academic activity....The task is given below linkhttps://vaidehi09.blogspot.com/2019/02/unit-2-journalism-featurewriting.html...

Lead writing:
In journalism, the beginning sentences of a news story are everything. Called leads or “ledes,” they must convey essential information, set the tone and entice people to continue reading. If you're interested in becoming an expert journalist, understanding how to write a lead is a key skill for your toolbox.

How to write a lead sentence or paragraph:
1.Determine your hook. ...
2.Be clear and succinct. ...
3.Write in the active voice. ...
4.Address the reader as “you.” ...
5.Put attribution second. ...
6.Go short and punchy. ...
7.If you're stuck, find a relevant stat. ...
8.Or, start with a story.
The first and most important paragraph of the news story is called lead. Readers will normally judge a story on newspaper by its lead. If it does not grab their attention, they will not read on. It summarizes the contents of the story and conveys its mood and a sense of urgency

What is a feature in journalism?

Feature articles provide readers with a written analysis of a certain topic. These articles are intended to serve readers with the writer's interpretation of a story, unlike news stories, which simply provide the facts. Feature articles appear in several different forms.

Types of Feature Stories in Journalism

  • Informative Feature. This type does not use many of the fiction writer's devices, since its purpose is to inform more than to entertain. ...
  • Personality Sketches. ...
  • Personal Experience Story. ...
  • Human Interest Feature Story. ...
  • Historical Feature. ...
  • Interpretative Feature. ...
  • Popularized Scientific Feature.

Why is feature writing important?

Features are more in-depth than traditional news stories and go beyond providing the most important facts. ... Communication professionals write feature articles to provide in-depth exposure for their client or organization. A feature can increase a client or company's visibility and even help find new key audiences.

             Thank you.....

Thinking Activity on Mass Media Ist Importance

Hello, Everyone welcome to my blog! This is my first Academic task of sem 4. It was given by Vaidehi ma'am. It was about our paper no. 15 - Mass Media and communication. So, here I am going to talk about  contemporary time's mass media and communication
So, if we talk about this then it was a huge platform to connect and contact with many people and to communicate it was very useful and helpful. Nowadays social media plays a vital role for mass media. In social media there was a subcategory platform like; Whats app Instagram, Facebook, Twitter,Google,Hello app,G-Mail,you-tube. Radio, Television, Newspaper, Magazine also known as  a important part of Mass media. We are living in the 21st century; so we are using tools for using social media like; Mobile, Laptop, etc. But In current time people have a craze of Mobile Phone rather than any other tools. With very softly and easily we can use mobile anytime, anything, anywhere and we can know about whatever happing in the state, country as well as in the world. Social media was a fastest way to sent information to the people and we can get response immediately. Google was the app where we can learn  anything, anytime and  we can repeat it whichever time we want. According to me I think that we are so luckiest that we get a chance to use this kind of superb technology and media. Nowadays everything becomes online. As we know we can order food, cloth, whichever item we want we can buy through online. We can reserved the tickets of train, bus and also room of hotel. So,we can say that online app becomes today's market. It gives profit in business,we can do work at seating home with online and it also provides good facilities for Education also. So,I think internet gives a full package of our needs.one more thing with mass media people are getting married with Shaddi.com app.

Now,I would like to talk about some tools which I am using in my daily life. So, i am using Whats app, facebook, Instagram, Google,You-tube. So, let's talk about them in detail.
It was a app or platform which was a common for all, because evey person has it ,even a common who doesn't know technology or have a smartphone than he also has whats app.Generally I can connect with my friends, relatives, classmates. With this app we can share and get information fastest. Here we have a privacy system. So we can keep control with whom we want to talk and with whom not? If, I give example than ,At our department if we want to do some survey or information about all students then we can just have a message in group and within some minutes we get response and our work will be easy and burden less. As it is providing facilities like, Messages, Video calling, Voice calling, Record and send,GIF, Music, documents, videos, Audio clips, etc. So, it was a easiest app for anybody. In current scenario everybody have a habit to check their mobile and specially whats app before sleeping and at morning after waking up they first mobile and then does other things.
It was widely used app but still not through every common man who has a smartphone. I think it was a global platform where we can connect with any person. Here I find some Proffesor or educated person who posted some good information which was helping in our studies. We can come to know about daily current events. Specifically if I share my experience of using this app, I use to post about my some Events which was done by me or our department, so I find alot improvement in my writing skills and in my language. So with this our Reading and writing skills becomes good. There are many posts related to art and creativity with which we can learn new things of life.

So, as per my point of view,I think you-tube was used by each and every person. Some are using it for entertainment, some for Academic life, some for business,it was also used by children for cartoons. I find it helpful because I use to watch some videos of books, novels, plays. It teaches some lessons with easy language with our comfort zone. We can create our Own you-tube channel and can share our videos.

Moreover,as we know that everything has its own advantages as well as disadvantages. So, social media also has some Disadvantages,as we have to face some difficulty like, some fake account, some viral videos and news, some wrong information,we can't full rely on it. So, at last I can say that social media and it's tool become an part of our life. Anyone can't live without it.

History of india

# Ancient of History #

India's history and culture is dynamic, spanning back to the beginning of human civilization. It begins with a mysterious culture along the Indus River and in farming communities in the southern lands of India. The history of India is punctuated by constant integration of migrating people with the diverse cultures that surround India. Available evidence suggests that the use of iron, copper and other metals was widely prevalent in the Indian sub-continent at a fairly early period, which is indicative of the progress that this part of the world had made. By the end of the fourth millennium BC, India had emerged as a region of highly developed civilization.

The Indus Valley Civilization

The History of India begins with the birth of the Indus Valley Civilization, more precisely known as Harappan Civilization. It flourished around 2,500 BC, in the western part of South Asia, what today is Pakistan and Western India. The Indus Valley was home to the largest of the four ancient urban civilizations of Egypt, Mesopotamia, India and China. Nothing was known about this civilization till 1920s when the Archaeological Department of India carried out excavations in the Indus valley wherein the ruins of the two old cities, viz. Mohenjodaro and Harappa were unearthed. The ruins of buildings and other things like household articles, weapons of war, gold and silver ornaments, seals, toys, pottery wares, etc., show that some four to five thousand years ago a highly developed Civilization flourished in this region.

The Indus valley civilization was basically an urban civilization and the people lived in well-planned and well-built towns, which were also the centers for trade. The ruins of Mohenjodaro and Harappa show that these were magnificent merchant cities-well planned, scientifically laid, and well looked after. They had wide roads and a well-developed drainage system. The houses were made of baked bricks and had two or more storeys.

Vedic Civilization

The Vedic civilization is the earliest civilization in the history of ancient India. It is named after the Vedas, the early literature of the Hindu people. The Vedic Civilization flourished along the river Saraswati, in a region that now consists of the modern Indian states of Haryana and Punjab. Vedic is synonymous with Hinduism, which is another name for religious and spiritual thought that has evolved from the Vedas.

The Ramayana and Mahabharata were the two great epics of this period.

The Buddhist Era

During the life time of Lord Gautam Buddha, sixteen great powers (Mahajanpadas) existed in the 7th and early 6th centuries BC. Among the more important republics were the Sakyas of Kapilavastu and the Licchavis of Vaishali.

Alexander's Invasion

In 326 BC, Alexander invaded India, after crossing the river Indus he advanced towards Taxila. He then challenged king Porus , ruler of the kingdom between the rivers Jhelum and Chenab. The Indians were defeated in the fierce battle, even though they fought with elephants, which the Macedonians had never before seen. Alexander captured Porus and, like the other local rulers he had defeated, allowed him to continue to govern his territory.

Gupta Dynasty

After the Kushanas, the Guptas were the most important dynasty. The Gupta period has been described as the Golden Age of Indian history. The first famous king of the Gupta dynasty was Ghatotkacha's son Chandragupta I. He married Kumaradevi, the daughter of the chief of the Licchavis. This marriage was a turning point in the life of Chandragupta I. He got Pataliputra in dowry from the Lichhavis. From Pataliputra, he laid the foundation of his empire and started conquering many neighbouring states with the help of the Licchavis. He ruled over Magadha (Bihar), Prayaga and Saketa (east Uttar Pradesh). His kingdom extended from the river Ganges to Allahabad. Chandragupta I also got the title of Maharajadhiraja (King of Kings) and ruled for about fifteen years.

Harshavardhana

With the commencement of the 7th century, Harshavardhana (606-647 A.D.) ascended the throne of Thaneshwar and Kannauj on the death of his brother, Rajyavardhana. By 612 Harshavardhana consolidated his kingdom in northern India.

The 21st century is frequently referred to as an e-generation for a reason that it is marked with innumerable advancements in technology and use of multiple media in general and computer science in particular. In these days, technology has altered the ways of almost all the major factors of living life, way of communication, business and learning and teaching. The academics arena considers the computer science as a panacea as it has revolutionized the teaching-system by transforming the ‘teacher-centered’ way to the ‘learner-centered’ one. From Teaching-Learning to Learning-Teaching:-
The changing nature of teaching can be defined as “Techno-pedagogy” as it is the blended learning and teaching happening through the Information and Communication Technology. The traditional method of “Chalk, Talk and Notes” has become outdated for today’s e-learners. Because the learning happens beyond the textbooks and the four-walls of class-rooms. Even the role of a teacher is no more conventional as he/she is more considered as a researcher, facilitator or instructor.  The teacher has to be techno-savvy to offer his learners the knowledge the way they want it. He has to adopt innovative teaching methods and approaches to make the lectures more engaging, lively and interesting. To do these things one has to have sound knowledge of the subject in addition to digital literacy which means not confident, creative and critical use of technology.

Virtual Learning Environment:-
There are various phases in English Language Teaching, from Computer Assisted Language Learning to Technology Enhanced Language Learning and now Web Enhanced Language Learning. Earlier the use of CALL seemed to be authoritative but after developments now it has become more collaborative. It emphasizes the two-way communication or sometimes multi-directional conversations and becomes more and more interactive. The youth prefer the ideas like chatting, preparing blogs, profiles, e-portfolios, net-discussions, peer-commenting, sharing the ideas on social-networking sites or preparing presentations using videos, images and animations. All of these are Web2.0 components that can be used efficiently to empower the language-learning process.

Advantages of Web 2.0 Tools:-
It demands a lot of participation from the learners, so they attain central position in the process.
It has made learning available any-time and any-where. The Virtual Space sees no boundaries so a learner has a free-will to choose the time and place for learning.
It is cost-effective for distance learning where instructor and learner cannot meet really but Web2.0 makes it possible virtually.
The knowledge and information is made available on the finger-tips of the learner with the help of Web 2.0.
It is easy-to-access way of learning and teaching.
The learners can get the feedback for his work or test in very short-time.
Social-networking sites can be helpful for learners to communicate as well as to share their ideas and feelings with everyone.
Blogs provides the global platform for the learners to share their knowledge.
Apart from these, the websites like Wikipedia, e-notes, sparknotes, novelguide become the helpful source of information; the Google-groups provide space for the online-discussions; the moodle and Brihaspati sites are immensely supportive for organizing, giving and taking tests; the you-tube videos and slide-share accounts enable sharing of videos and presentations, etc.

Few Drawbacks:
The Web 2.0 tools are all on-line ways of Information and Communication Technology. So lack of connectivity can be the hurdle in remote places or rural areas.
All the teachers and Learners may not have digital literacy or computer competency. The approach of teacher or learner towards Web2.0 language Learning proves to be the biggest obstacle in learning process.
The technological advancements are on very fast pace, so it becomes difficult for all the teachers and learners to cope up with it.
Basically, it is Computer Mediated Communication [CMC]. So it may not be the affordable to everyone, and hence it doesn’t remain cost-effective.

Conclusion:
From desktop PCs to Laptops, Laptops to Palmtops and Palmtops to cell-phone based language learning, shows the rapid changes in technology. All these advancements are adapted gradually in the process of teaching and learning.  So teaching does not remain an art but the mixture of art of teaching and computer science.

Thanking activity on History of CALL -MALL

This blog is part of my academic task given by our professor.

# The History of CALL

Although computers have been used since the first half of the 20th century, they were not used for educational purposes until the 1960s. The 1970s witnessed the evolution of CALL as a result of development in research related to the use of computers for linguistic purposes and for creating suitable language learning conditions. In America the computer based introductory courses in the 1960s were pioneering projects in CALL, and were referred to as computer Assisted Instruction (CAl) The 1980s have witnessed the spread of computers both in educational institutions and in people's homes. Since the beginning of the '80s computers have also found their way into many schools. CALL software has also become more readily available on the market (Ittelson: 2000).

The emergence of inexpensive computer technology and mass storage media, including optical videodiscs and compact disks, has given instructional technologists better tools to work with. Compact disks are used to store large amounts of data, such as encyclopedias or motion pictures. In CALL centers with computers and software such as CD-ROM, CD-I, or videodiscs, a student who is interested in a particular topic can first scan an electronic encyclopedia, then view a film on the subject or look at related topics at the reach of a button. Thus, such learning centers present students with the advantages of reference materials and popularize computer-aided instruction. The computer laboratory has become an integral component of foreign-language programs in most educational institutions (Hardisty & Windeatt: 1989).
Computers have been used for language teaching for more than three decades. According to Warschauer & Healey (1998) the history of CALL can be divided into three stages: behaviouristic CALL, communicative CALL and integrative CALL.
Each stage corresponds to a certain pedagogical approach.
Behaviouristic CALL
It was formed in the late 1960s and used widely in the 1970s under the influence of Audio-lingual teaching method. In this stage of CALL, repetitive language drills, referred to as drill-and practice were used. The computer was seen as a mechanical tutor who never allowed students to work at an individual pace, which hindered motivation. Further, it included extensive drills, grammatical explanations and translation at various intervals (Warschauer & Healey 1998).
Communicative CALL
It was the period of the 1980s. This period was the time that behaviouristic approach to language teaching was being rejected at both theoretical and pedagogical level, and also personal computers were creating greater possibilities for individual work at school. Communicative CALL corresponded to cognitive theories which stressed that learning was a process of discovery, expression and development. Under the influence of Communicative Language Teaching defendants of communicative CALL argued that computer based activities should focus more on using forms. Software developed in this period included text reconstruction program and simulations. In communicative CALL, the focus was not so much on what students did with the computer, but rather what they did with each other while working at the computer.

Interactive CALL
By the 1990s communicative CALL began to be criticized. New second language acquisition theories and socio-cognitive views influenced many teachers and lead them to use more social and learner-centered methods. This time, emphasis was put on language use in authentic social contexts. Ta husk-based, project-based and content-based approaches all sought to integrate learners in authentic environments, and also to integrate the various skills of language learning and use. In integrative approaches, students are enabled to use a variety of technological tools as an ongoing process of language learning and use rather than visiting the computer lab once a week basis for isolated exercises.

Thinking Activity on David Crystal ( ELT)

This blog is part of my academic task given by our professor. To read more information about this taskhttps://blog.dilipbarad.com/2015/01/introduction-to-education-and-technology.html?m=1

David Crystal, Linguistic is addressing young generation by giving the history of Internet, facebook, twitter, blog, printing, press and blog. Digital natives are using new language in their text messages and chatting, it is the new phase of English language. He is of the opinion that “Text messages are good for English language”.  Many thinkers are of the opinion that technology has distorted the pure form of English language. But according to David it is not so. Text messages are never full abbreviations. It contains only 10% of message. Our present examination system is very much conservative about Standard English and it will accept only correct English. But our students are very much intelligent, they will never use text language in exam because they know it very well that it will decrease his marks. Internet has made the world one little village. Earlier one new invented word took long time to reach to the people, but now it can be popular within one day with the use of technology. Initially there was only one Standard English that British English. But today we find a wide variety of English such as American English, Indian English, South African English, Nigerian English etc. So there is no any kind of “Correct English” in this world. Indian people are habituated in using English. Language is the most complex thing in the world which includes so many components within itself.  They use it as most frequent tool for conversation. Today it is very easy for teacher to teach any language, you just have to type the word and Google will provide you end number of information.

Thinking Activities on Technology in Education and ELT

This blog is part of my academic task given by our professor. To read more information about this taskhttps://blog.dilipbarad.com/2015/01/introduction-to-education-and-technology.html?m=1
  • 1 Why is it necessary to use Technology in Education?
  •  In education main focus is on teaching learning process. And because of this Teacher is at the center from the very earlier stage of teaching learning process. But now time is changing and with the flow of time teaching learning process is also starts changing. So now Students are at the center rather than teacher. There are so many methods and approaches for teaching learning process but no one can replace technology as a best method of teaching learning process. That’s why technology is very important thing in teaching learning process and it is necessary in process of teaching learning. Self-learning is very important part of teaching learning process with the help of technology. Dec-entering the center from teacher to student.
  • What is the difference between 'using' and 'integrating' technology?
  •  Integrating the technology is also related with teacher and students use of technology into the classroom. By using new ideas. Is the use of technology of a tools integrate  the content areas in order to allow students to apply computer and technology skills to learning and problem solving of students. Generally speaking the curriculum which is hard but can solve by using technology.
  •  Flipped learning. Here only teachers can put videos and other things , student can not. They use technology here but can not edit anything. This is one way use of technology.
  • Example:- Integration technology
  • Online Quiz
  • Using this online Quiz ,student and teacher both use technology here. It is essential to learning activity.

3 How can we integrate technology?
  • We can integrate technology in the classroom through various web tools like power point presentation, Blog task, Flipped learning and social media like Whatsapp and Facebook, in which Flipped learning is very interesting because it broke the traditional norms of teaching and learning in the classroom. Students can learn any time from any where through flipped learning. Teacher can engage the students without his or her presence
  • 4 Can technology replace  teacher?
  • This is the age in which human are replaced by technology. There is so many place in which the place of human beings are taken by machine and technology. But in education , the place of teacher is can not taken by anything. May be the place of teacher will be taken by technology but there will be still missing of emotion, feelings and interaction between student and teacher. The replacement of teacher with tools ,it may gave us big challenge and it becomes harmful also.
  •  Many times student like me failed to understand some topic while reading in google and watching videos but my professor Dr. Dilip Barad can teach me with the help of various examples, hence teacher is very helpful to understand easily.
  • 5 Write in brief on David Crystal's views on 'effect of new technologies on English language', 'biggest challenge for English language teachers in the times of internet', and 'texting is good for English language'.
  • David Crystal speaks about the influence of technology on English language.  Technology helps in learning language but also effects it. As we know many people read stuff from social media, many people are social networking cites and for that you need a basic platform to interact with other people and that can happen with a common language used by all, English. He also talked about the problems that teachers are facing while dealing with the new generation’s students. Because this language. Teachers have to teach students to accept every accent and they should also focus on the modern English used by students. As Crystal says that the earlier mobile you got, the higher your literacy goes. Exactly! Mobile teaches us lot, the whole world and every single way to educate your self is with you in your pocket if you have a mobile with you. No one really uses the Standard English, and all have to accept it. Texting is 'Good' for English Language, while interacting with new people we can correct ourselves. See, speaking English in front of people, we get nervous, but while texting we don’t. So texting helps it.
  •  6 Name one web-tool which can help in development of all four L-S-R-W skills. If possible explain how it works.
  • “some skills can be acquired through self-study . . . while other skills need to be learned through the experience of interacting with other people along with the guidance of a teacher”
  •                Whatsapp as a web tool is very useful for all four basic skills. We can develop listening, speaking, reading and writing through whatsapp features. Whatsapp gives very good feature for improving these skills

ELT2 : Technology and Education

Welcome to my blog...

# Can technology replace teacher ?

Technology cen not change the teacher But the teacher uses it.

It is a vital question to think on it.  Because there are so many places where technology has taken the place of human being.  Like in industry, handicrafts,  agriculture, and etc. According to me if teacher is well equipped then technology can't take place of a teacher. Because technology gives just information, where's teacher explains the concept by connecting the dots. As we know that human being have feelings which helps learner in learning. But yes techno friendly teacher can take place of an out dated teacher. Who always denies new things and tries to control the students.

By this difference I understand that integrationg technology is also related to the use of technology in the student classroom.

Let's see  some characteristics of technology .

1. Speed

2. Perfection

3. Update

4. Time and space

Now  sometime it is not easy for  human to be update with time. But  technology is getting update now and then. Most  important thig is we can use it anytime and anyplace if we have enough tools. So we can be work without any problems.

In this   idea company's ad  we can see how  technology is become helpful to teach those who can not get admission in school of many reasons. Through the  good network students can be able to  learn and development their self. Teacher are teaching them from far distance and they are able to learn their rural areas. So yes this way technology can be helpful.

In present time we see that  small kid also know how to search things and scroll the skin and all the  technology learning things. That  we can see in above video. He is got salvation own his on and go live through using technology. It all about to learn from mother's womb. May be so... But  as venadatu said its as that

what is the difference between 'using' and 'integrating ' technology ?

To use technology is its basic access but integrating technology is using for deeper knowledge and create  something new and useful. using it mens that technology  used only by teacher or student get some basic information or knowledge But if students are in center or learning through technology and teacher is just as an instructor, then it is integration of technology.
